Tuesday Teachings With King Pexxie- “He Promised To Marry Me, But He Didn’t. Can I Sue The Scum?”

He promised to marry me, He said we will get married, He said I’m the only one for him and said he would propose to me…
He said he loves me and will marry me but didn’t pop the question! Yen yen yen!!
I know… stop crying.. unfortunately what you are looking for “sympathy” isn’t here, as I’m not in the business of sympathizing with people, meet your therapist for that.

.

I chose this topic due to some certain reasons best known to me and also because we’ve seen men turn many Nigerian ladies to Lords of the rings.. where they decorate them with beautiful engagement rings and years gone down the lane, the man reneges on his promise to Marry the lady.. It can pain ehn! I mean WakandaMan is that?

.

So dear Ladies, let’s drink a bottle of Orijin in advance for what I’m about to say to you. you can sue that guy for promising to marry you and then NOT marrying you in turn.. why? Well… because this is a BREACH! So technically in our legal Lingua, there’s already a “Breach Of Promise to Marry” Yes! I know it sounds absurd yeah? But it’s the truth… promising to marry someone is a social contract and the failure to carry out that obligation is a breach which Is punishable with a Remedy (in form of damages).

.

That is to say unequivocally that under the lens and jurisdiction of the Nigerian law, an agreement or a promise to marry a person is viewed as a legally binding contract, and if a party can succinctly prove that there was in fact a promise to marry, and the other party reneges, then a legal action / claim can be made out of this.

.

I’m sure somewhere in your head, you are thinking “is this one mad? What am I taking legal actions for against someone who says he doesn’t want to marry me again?”. In truth you are right, but the role of the court in this is to ensure that justice is served and the aggrieved and injured party is well Compensated for the damaged caused by the person who breached the promises to marry.

.

So how can I even know if I will win my case that he promised to marry me ?

.

It’s simple, here are facts that needs to be proved for you to have a strongly Built case, as he who asserts MUST proof:

1- That there was indeed a promise to marry

Now ladies, don’t get this confused.. you both discussed sunrise in the Bahamas and sunset in Alabama doesn’t mean he has promised to marry you. You both discussing possibilities of growing old together in future and watching your grand kids play golf while you sip a bottle of “ Domaine de la Romanee-Conti” on the golf course isn’t a promise to marry.

.

The best and most viable way to show that there was indeed an actual promise to Marry is by showing that the baby boy did put a ring on it… Sure Beyoncé gave you all that advice already. You will need as much evidence as possible to corroborate this evidence as possible, simply because he could deny it and claim that he was coerced, and you must prove beyond reasonable doubt that he willfully proposed to you.

.

Evidence like photos and videos of him proposing, receipt of payment for Ring, voice recordings, Text messages, emails, letters sent etc would do well to prove that there was truly an intention to marry.

.

2- The other party must have defaulted and failed to honor his promise to marry you.
The fact that he decided to shift the wedding date or postpone the agreed wedding doesn’t necessarily mean he has reneged on his promise, however in some obviously apparent event, where he has postponed the wedding severally and deliberately, you can claim that the Party has failed to honored the promise, as it is evidential that the party doesn’t want to forge ahead with the marriage.

.

What are the types of Damages that can be awarded in this type of civil claim?

– Damages for loss of finances if any was invested by the other party towards the promised marriage. Finances like Aso- ebi, wedding gowns and suit, bridal shower, bridal train gown, rental of hall, airplane and hotel booking expense etc
– Damages in compensation for injury to the health of the aggrieved party
Hope you have been able to learn one or two things from today’s teaching..

A Beautiful Child Is Waiting Out There For You “I Was An Adopted Child”- Joke Silva-jacobs

The beautiful and respected actress, now 56 years old, revealed the secret at the first Annual Conference of Heritage Adoption Support and Advocacy Group in Lagos.

.

Joke’s adopted parents were the late Chief E.A Silva, a reputable lawyer, the then Babajiro of Lagos and his wife late Dr Abimbola Silva, a pioneering female doctor, who died in July 2015.

.

She was living in a foster home of the Red Cross in Yaba, Lagos, with her foster parent, Mrs. Desalu, when the Silvas took her away. she said. “Everybody would be calling me whenever my adopted mum (Dr. Silva)came with cakes and a lot of things during her visit. I went to YWCA Nursery, which was not too far from the Silva’s home in Yaba.

.

I also have memories of moving in with them when they moved to Glover Road in Ikoyi. “I remember reading newspapers to my Dad in our sitting room and pronouncing Brig-General Aguyi Ironsi, the then Nigeria Head Of State, Agolo Iresi! My father could not stop laughing at my hilarious interpretation of the newspaper.

.

“Also I remember making them proud, when performing at St. Saviour School. My parents would be standing and were congratulated by other parent too for my acting skills. My parents were so excited that this child was incredibly talented.

.

“I have memories of going to Holy Child College Lagos because my parents insisted on me going to Holy Child because that is where Julie Coker, Pearce Olusola and Ibidun Allison went and they believed with all my performing talent skills, that is the kind of school I should go to too.

.

“I remembered going out with my cousin and we met a big cousin She introduced me as ‘my cousin’s daughter and this is Dr Silva’s daughter. Then, the older cousin was like, ‘Dr. Silva ke? Se Doctor Silva bimo ni? (meaning does Dr. Silva have a child?). Did Dr Silva ever has a child?’ “I was so confused and when I got home I told my mum, ‘I met this lady that says you never had a child.’ My mum froze and she said, ‘don’t mind them, they are used to rubbish talk.’

Instagram Set To Alert Users When You Screenshot Their Stories

Instagram is testing a feature that will show users when someone else takes a screenshot of their story. Users included in the test are getting a warning that the next time they take a screenshot of a friend’s story the friend will be able to see it.

.

And users who are participating in the test can see who took a screenshot of their story by going to the list of story viewers and seeing a new camera shutter logo next to anyone who took a screenshot of their photo. To be clear, creators won’t get a specific notification when someone takes a screenshot of their story, it will only show up in their list of story viewers.

.

Instagram is likely using this test to see if the feature has any noticeable impact on engagement, before deciding whether or not they’ll roll it out to all users. For example, there’s a chance that some users may end up watching less stories over time if they aren’t able to take screenshots without notifying the creator.

.

Prior to this test the only screenshot notifications on Instagram were when someone took a screenshot of a private direct message. Anyone could take a screenshot of someone’s photo or story without notifying the creator. Notably, users can rewatch stories as many times as they want within 24 hours, with the creator unable to see exactly how many times one person watched it.

.

If rolled out, this feature would essentially align Instagram with Snapchat in terms of how the platform deals with screenshots. Any screenshot of a direct message triggers a notification to the sender, but a screenshot of a story will just result in a notation being placed next to the offender’s name in the viewer analytics tab.

Like Her Elder Sister, Niniola, Has Done, Teni Is Gradually Winning The Heart Of Nigerians.

Though they have different styles, they both have an undying passion for music.
.
.
Teni’s song, ‘Fargin,’ which dropped last year, annouced her presence in the music industry. She has released two other songs -‘Pareke’ in December and ‘Wait’ this week.
.
.
In an encounter with GoldMyneTV, she said there was nothing she could do better than music.
.
.
She stated, “When I am sick, I can still stand up and record songs. Music is something I can do without being paid and the easiest thing for me to do.”
.
.
Reacting to insinuations that the lyrics of ‘Fargin’ are too vulgar, she replied, “If you listen to the lyrics well, it has many meanings. The part I said ‘o ni ki bo pata (they asked me to remove my pants)’ talks about rape and the fact that young girls need to understand that being a virgin is not bad. Young girls are now under pressure because the society feels it is uncool to be a virgin.”
.
.
While admitting that Niniola has been instrumental in her life, she stressed that she had also challenged her to prove herself to the world.
.
.
She added, “My sister is my family and nothing can change that. I don’t care about what anyone says. Our happiness comes even before music.”
