Fast Rising producer and actress, Ronke Adeniyi had much to say about career, projects and culture when she bumped into one of our correspondent. Read more from the exclusive chat below.
WHO IS RONKE ADENIYI?
Ronke Adeniyi is the second child in a family of five, I am a native of Oyo state, born and raised in Ibadan. I am a producer, screen writer and an actress. I had my primary education at Kinder Land Nursery and Primary school. I attended the Polytechnic High School and then going further to obtain a National Diploma Certificate at The Polytechnic Ibadan. I also studied a two years course in Performing Arts at Mui Authentic Sch of Drama. Currently, I am an undergraduate at the National Open University of Nigeria.
TELL US THE GENESIS OF YOUR ACTING
I use to run a drama group in my church then. One day, a friend of mine in church who is also an actress invited me to her location. I met Muyiwa Ademola and he fell in love with my acting at the venue. As a new comer who has never faced the camera, he advised me to join his school for proper training and that was how the whole thing started in 2007/2008.
WHAT WAS YOUR DEBUT EXPERIENCE LIKE?
My debut movie was EBURE in 2007. It was a bit challenging because this was the first time I am facing the camera and meeting one on one with superstars. However, I enjoyed every bit of it,trust me I did well. Thanks to my boss, Muyiwa Ademola who encouraged me.
WHICH OTHER MOVIES HAVE YOU FEATURED IN?
I have featured in a lot of films I can’t remember; IKU EWA, OYENUSI, JEMIRIYE, OGEDEDUDU, IRANRAN, FOOL’S PARADISE, ATORI, WOTO, ORISIRISI and so on.
SO FAR. WHICH OF THE ROLES THAT YOU HAVE PLAYED DID YOU FIND CHALLENGING?
None of the movies I have done is challenging. I am looking forward to a challenging role in a movie
TELL US ABOUT YOUR PRODUCTION PROFILE
I am the producer of SIKEMI, IBOJU, AJAGA and OUR WIFE (AYA WA). OUR WIFE (AYA WA) is my latest project and it is out now.
WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP STATUS?
I have never been married but I have two kids
WHO ARE THE DIRECTORS YOU ARE LOOKING TO WORK WITH IN FUTURE?
Kunle Afolayan, frank Rajah, Tade Ogidan and a whole lot of them
DO YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF AS AN ACTRESS WHO HAS ARRIVED IN THE INDUSTRY?
No, I am not there yet but by His Grace am going to get there sooner than expected.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT THE YORUBA CULTURE?
I admire the Yoruba culture because it is very interesting and original. The beauty of the yoruba culture is endearing that even other countries are interested in it.
YOUR WORDS TO UPCOMING ACTS
Rome was not built in a day, to be a successful actress you have to be patient , you have to be able to endure, don’t be desperate and be consistent.
