Fast rising actor and producer, Shoneye Olamilekan (Show) talks family, career and long term aspirations with Ayo Adams. Read more below:
WHO IS SHOW?
My name is Shoneye Olamilekan, most people call me (Show). I am the first child in a family of five and my parents hail from Ogun state (Abeokuta). I am an HND holder in computer science from the Lagos state Polytechnic.
FROM COMPUTER SCIENCE TO MOVIE MAKING, HOW DID YOU START?
In life they say opportunity comes with preparation, I was just fortunate to be at the right place at the right time. So I was around where a shoot was going on, they were short of a cast, the director saw and approached me if I could help them out. Quickly, I obliged because it was what I wanted. After the shoot, I was commended by the casts and crew on the set. This gave me more courage to chase my dream fully which today, I am glad I did. However, that is one moment I would never forget because it changed my life forever.
WHEN YOUR PARENTS HEARD THEIR COMPUTER SCIENTIST HAS GONE INTO MOVIE MAKING,WHAT WAS THEIR REACTION?
At first it was tough, it was a tough decision for me too, but I knew I wanted more for myself than being an office person, same job description and routines for many years after graduation. So after working in a company for five years, I resigned to chase my dreams and it took a lot to convince my parents because I needed to be the man i had always wanted to become and with God everything got clearer and i got their blessings.
YOUR DEBUT MOVIE?
Autism produced by Moji Smith. It was a great start for me being part of the project.
TELL US ABOUT THE MOVIES YOU HAVE PRODUCED?
I am the producer of Aiyelomo, Playboys, Ultimatum, Olamiotan and Owo. Trust me we have big things coming. Though Aiyelomo is out on dvd but Playboys and Ultimatum is out on youtube for viewing pleasure via nollywoodmoviebox. Meanwhile, Olamiotan and Owo are the next big thing to watch out for.
HOW ARE THE FEEDBACKS ON THE RELEASED PROJECTS?
The feebacks have been very postive in every aspect and that has pushed me to do and to strive for more. Trust me the sky is just the beginning.
WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT NEXT?
Something massive and different is coming very soon. But before then, we have Olamiotan and Owo (Money) hitting the screen soonest.
WHAT IS YOUR PERCEPTION ABOUT AWARDS?
Awards have been causing a whole lot of controversies in the industry as we all know. My take however is that it shouldnt be based on relationship or sentiments, I strongly believe that nominations should be based on how much work has been put and contributions from potential nominees. I believe the organisers of the award can do better in that area.
WHO DO YOU LOOK UP TO IN THE INDUSTRY?
I look up to God and endow respect to everyone in the industry. I adore everyone’s work.
DO YOU HAVE ANY CRUSH IN THE INDUSTRY?
Of course, I do have a crush in the industry but that is left to me, I won’t let the cat out of the bag.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT ON THE FIELD?
It was a culture job, I was asked to speak a language which I wasn’t familiar with. It gave me a lot of stress because it wasn’t my style but as an actor you should be able to interprete any role given to you by the director and in the end, life was bliss.
WHAT IS YOUR SELLING POINT?
(SMILING) Let my fans decide that
WHAT ARE YOUR LONG TERM ASPIRATIONS IN THIS JOB?
I want to be a legend and inspire other future stars just like our fathers in the game. Make history and be a source of inspiration for others to do more.
YOUR WORDS TO ASPIRING MOVIE MAKERS
Believe in yourself, work hard, stay strong, respect everybody, fear no one and give God the praise and in the end, every dreams would come true.
